THE SEMED MISSION

Startup Europe Mediterranean is an initiative powered by FacilityLive in collaboration with the European Commission’s Startup Europe initiative, to detect, connect and exchange among startups, investors, corporates, universities and policymakers operating around the Mediterranean.

We plan to map out innovation ecosystems in the Mediterranean region, discovering especially digital startups and learning about all the events and the stakeholders around them.

WHERE SEMED STARTED

SEMED is an idea born in FacilityLive’s Headquarters in Pavia, Italy, the southernmost founding country of the European Union. In 2019 another Italian city in the South, Matera, one of the most ancient cities in the world and a source of innovation dating back to 9000 years ago, will be the European Capital of Culture. Due to its geographical position and thanks to its strong Mediterranean cultural identity, to be celebrated in 2019 as a symbol of the European culture, Matera is the natural location to start hosting some of the activities bridging the European Union with the whole Mediterranean region, with the support of an operational office in Potenza, the capital of Basilicata, the Italian region where Matera is located.

HOW SEMED WORKS

While the network will continue its expansion activities, from March 2019 FacilityLive’s Cloud Platform will offer a virtual interconnected space where people, startups, investors, corporates, universities and policymakers can meet, learn about the ecosystem, and drive investment, but also meet other stakeholders, exchange information, ideas, experiences and build business links to grow the ecosystem.
